Samuel Eto'o gives young fan a heartfelt hug after World Cup elimination
More Than An XY is a collaborative project created by Marlon Cole of forFATHERS project and Gabrielle Smith of The:nublk to create a visual tribute to Black Fathers and Positive Male Role Models. Although we’ve been raised in different parts of the world the issue surrounding the role of fathers in our community was one that resonated for both of us.
While we know that you can’t congratulate someone for something they’re supposed to do we want- ed to pay tribute to the men in our lives and those in our community. Too often the media focuses on the negative side so we decided to challenge that and offer an alternative that we know many can relate to.
For more information about the project, if you’re an artist interested in submitting your work for our next exhibition or if you’re interested in having this exhibition in your city we’d love to hear from firstname.lastname@example.org
Meet our special guests for #MTXYtalk
Join us on Sunday (June 15th) as we hear their inspiring stories about Fatherhood!
In 2012 Thenublk and forFATHERS created More Than XY – an exhibition and online space which celebrated the role of Fathers and positive male role models from Africa and the Diaspora. We found that through creating the platform and connecting with fathers we knew it allowed us to give an often unheard voice a place to discuss and share their stories.
This month on June 15th (Father’s Day) we will be having an online conversation in association with NU People Magazine with a number of people whose own journeys navigating Fatherhood whether it be as parents, artists or educators have inspired us since we launched our exhibition.
Join us on Twitter from 7pm GMT/2pm EST for #MTXYtalk with our very special guests:
Marlon Cole – forFATHERS
Zun Lee – photographer and creator of ‘Father Figure’
Rebekah Frimpong – filmmaker
Kamran Assadi & Yomi Sode – Daddy Diaries
Alfred Mante – filmmaker
If you’d like to submit a question for event please leave it in the comments section below or Tweet us on the day using the hashtag #MTXYtalk
This Spring season forFATHERS project partners with StoryCorps to offer families an opportunity to share their story on fatherhood.
StoryCorps is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve their stories. Since 2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 40,000 interviews from nearly 80,000 participants. Millions of Americans listen to StoryCorps’ award-winning broadcasts each week on NPR’s Morning Edition. Millions more have viewed telecasts of StoryCorps’ animated shorts on YouTube, PBS, and at storycorps.org.
Here’s How It Works
Find an interview partner: A StoryCorps interview is a conversation between two (2) people who know each other. Is there a colleague you admire? Someone you have always wanted to ask how they do what they do? This is a great opportunity to ask—or answer—the questions that matter.
Schedule your interview: StoryCorps will record interviews on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Contact, email@example.com to schedule your appointment.
The interview: A StoryCorps interview is 40 minutes long. At the end of the interview you will receive a free CD of the recording, and with your permission a copy of the interview will be archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
Space is limited, so contact as soon as possible to reserve your interview spot.
